BURBANK, Calif. -- Tis the season for year-end lists, and since you’ve probably been spending a lot of time shopping for holiday gifts, the timing couldn’t be more fitting because we’re talking fashion brands.
The folks at digital marketing agency, Zeta Interactive, use their technical wizardry to scan more than 200 million blogs, Tweets, message boards, social media posts, etc. to determine the buzz about a given subject - in this case - fashion brands. Zeta weighs the volume of buzz as well as the tone- both negative and positive. The company has been doing these annual Zeta Buzz Awards since 2008 and this year, Glam Slam has the exclusive honors of revealing the list.
Which brand landed on top? Michael Kors! The brand got the most buzz of all fashion brands this year, knocking Polo out of the number 1 spot. Michael Kors received an impressive 97% positive tonal ranking, meaning that nearly all of the comments regarding the brand were positive. The designer’s role as a judge on “Project Runway” appears to have helped the brand as well according to Al DiGuido, CEO of Zeta Interactive. “Michael Kors has been very aggressive in raising overall awareness of his brand over the last twelve months; making frequent appearances on fashion TV shows like “Project Runway” and others. As a designer, his clothing taps into a market trend that we have seen throughout all consumer product categories; the growing connection between price and value relationship. Kors has been smart to price his designs within the reach of the core male consumer spending target; hence the intense popularity of his brand and clothing.”
Old Navy came in at number 2 this year, jumping up six spots from last year’s rankings… the biggest mover on the list. Polo Ralph Lauren moves down to third place.
Express, at number 4, is one of four new fashion brands landing in the top ten. Tommy Hilfiger at number 5, Chanel at number 7 and Brooks Brothers in the ninth spot, are the other new kids on the buzz block.
Gap took a tumble, falling 5 spots to number 8, while Banana Republic remains in the number 10 spot.
Several companies that were on the list last year did not make the list this year, including Giorgio Armani, Aeropostale, J.Crew and Guess.
