Glam Slam: Dress Wars
As more and more details have come out, much ado has been made about Anne Hathaway’s “Oscar Dress Gate,” when she switched gowns at the last minute after finding out another star was wearing something very similar.
Us Weekly reports that she threw “a fit” when she saw a photo of her “Les Miserables” co-star Amanda Seyfried’s gown at Oscar rehearsals. Thus… she switched from her original Valentino choice to the pale pink Prada gown we all saw. If she really did have a meltdown, it sounds more like something out of her 2009 film “Bride Wars” than what we’d expect from a prim and proper nominee like Anne.
For all the “Hathaway Haters” out there, it’s just more ammunition NOT to like the star. But if we all put ourselves in her shoes… would we feel differently?
To put things in more of a real world perspective… What if your best friend picked a nearly identical wedding gown that you had been planning to wear for ages? Or if a co-worker wore the same dress to the big, fancy office party? Think back to your prom days… your teenage self would probably be mortified if someone else wore the same or very similar dress.
There are so many ways to respond to a situation like that. It’s hard to say exactly how I would react. I would probably be somewhat upset, but hope that at some point I could laugh about it. But I don’t think I would act like Anne reportedly did either. At least I hope I wouldn’t. But that’s just the thing. No one knows for sure until we’re actually in the moment.
Think of the pressure Anne was under. All eyes were on her! Think of all the planning, fittings and meetings that went into her red carpet look. She probably dreamed about this moment for weeks… months… maybe even years?
Forget about turning into a pumpkin when the clock struck midnight… Anne saw her Cinderella fairytale moment end before she even got to the ball. I’m not saying I defend her supposed behavior, but I don’t see why I should gang up on her either. You know… stones… glass houses… that whole thing.
Let’s just hope that in the future if there IS a behind-the-scenes issue, Anne handles it with the grace we’ve come to expect from her and saves the drama for the big screen where it belongs!!
