LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Family Day! My husband, daughter and I were lucky enough to be invited to the ‘John Varvatos 10th Annual Stuart House Benefit’ this year; a star-studded charity event that closes down Melrose Boulevard!
The charity event was a silent auction, including lots of food and shopping at the ‘John Varvatos Boutique’; and of course, plenty of star gazing. Honorary co-chairs Jennifer Garner (who is much taller than I had imagined) and Ben Affleck were on hand; as well as, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Tori Spelling and family, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber - with their two beautiful children.
There were lots for the kids to do in the ‘Hasbro Studio’ tent, where they had all kinds of games going. At one point, an event volunteer was teaching my daughter how to play ‘Connect 4’ when I realized, Tiffani Thiessen and her daughter were sitting on one side of us. Also, Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman with their son, Skyler were sitting across the table. My daughter had no idea, of course, but it made for some good people watching for me!
There were amazing balloon artists and tattoos for the kids. Make that, kids of all ages. My daughter wanted all of us to get tattoos and my husband let her pick one out for him. She chose the biggest tat they had- a dragon that covered half of his arm! He joked that “the family that tats together, stays together”.
Magician Justin Willman, also host of ‘Cupcake Wars’, amazed us all with some pretty unbelievable tricks. I’ve seen him perform at this event the last three years and I still can’t figure out single one of his tricks. He ripped up a dollar bill from my husband and gave it back to us after he’d put it back together the wrong way. (See photo of our daughter with Justin). Huh? How’d he DO that?
You can’t have a John Vartatos event without a little rock ‘n roll, of course; and the headlining entertainment was a special live performance by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. (Slash also joined them on stage). Wow! My husband was going pretty crazy. I’ve never seen Aerosmith live and I have to say I was impressed. I got a new appreciation for them after hearing them perform.
The event raises money for the ‘Stuart House’, the UCLA rape treatment program. More than $800,000 was raised- way to go!
