LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

…and I have nothing to wear! I am covering fashion on the red carpet for Access Hollywood, which brings up the age old question - “What the heck do I wear?” While I have very, very definite ideas of what I like when it comes to my “real life” style, it’s a whole other universe, when it comes to what to wear on a red carpet that looks good on television.

Enter Access Hollywood stylist Lindsay Albanese! Lindsay helped me get gorgeous for the Oscars and she offered to help again. Lindsay predicts several trends we will see for the Emmys:

Jewel Tone Colors
One Shouldered Gowns
Embellished Gowns
Romantic gowns, nothing too constricting.

I tried on several dresses. The flowy, black Robert Rodriguez gown was very beautiful. Next - a purple one shouldered Pamella Roland goddess gown. That covers three of the four trends… a real contender!

Lindsay knows how much I love a statement necklace and she found a Jenni Kayne navy silk dress with an elaborate jewel neckline that looked like a necklace. It was truly a beautiful gown… a bit on the low cut side though… and let’s face it, I’m no J.Lo!

I also tried on a couple of short dresses, which Lindsay thinks we will see on the carpet, but I just didn’t feel it was right for me. Leighton Meester or Blake Lively can pull that off - no problem. Not me and my white legs. I told our camera guy he could white balance his camera off my legs!

And while most people (myself included) aren’t red carpet regulars, a lot of Lindsay’s advice works for any formal event whether it’s a wedding or a high school reunion.

Make sure you have the right undergarments. The right push up bra and body shapewear can change a dress entirely, both for the better… or the worse.

Make sure your gown doesn’t reveal too much. You’ve heard about stars taking their photo before they hit the red carpet to make sure you can’t see through it and Lindsay says that is true. Get someone to take your photo to make sure all your bases are properly covered.

Going to formal events can get pricey. I asked Lindsay if it’s OK to skimp on shoes, since I never wear these kind of fancy, schmancy heels and she said yes. So I hit the mall and got shoes on sale at Nine West for less than 30 dollars! Score!

You can check out the Emmys Sunday at 8 PM EDT on CBS.
