Glam Slam: Makeup Mondays - Summer Beauty For Women Of Color

We’re in the middle of “June Gloom” out here in Los Angeles, so what better way to brighten things up than some fresh makeup trends.

Warren-Tricomi Los Angeles celebrity makeup artist Liz Zaldana-Sender, who has worked with Nicole Richie, Kristen Bell, Holly Robinson Peete and Constance Marie, reveals some Summer beauty trends and tips for women of color.

SHIMMERY GOLDEN EYES
At the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, Beyonce rocked a soft smokey bronze look that lit up her eyes regardless of if she was arm locked with her fabulous husband Jay-Z or strutting her stuff on stage. To get this look, pat on a metallic amber or gold hued eyeshadow to the bottom half of the lid. I love Amber Lights by MAC for a smokey bronze look. If you prefer a more toned down eye try Exotic Dance Duo Eyeshadow by NARS. Finish off with a lash lengthening and thickening mascara like Diorshow.

RADIANT SUNKIST FACE GLOW
J.Lo’s makeup during the “American Idol” finale is such a simple look that anyone can achieve. Start by using a light moisturizer to nourish skin and top it with a fluid sheer foundation that has a luminous glow - I love Giorgio Armani’s. For darker skin, use an Amber toned foundation, medium skin, use Golden Bronze and for light skin use a Beige Shimmer. Apply a nickel size all over face and neck. Then, touch up the cheekbones and down the center of the nose with a creamy makeup stick, which will make the glow really pop.

GO BRIGHT OR GO NUDE
There are two great looks for the lips this Summer - nude or bright. Rihanna rocked the bright look while performing on the “Today” show Summer concert and Janet Jackson wore a shimmery nude look recently at an amfAR event. Before applying lipstick, I always tell my clients to exfoliate their lips to create a smooth texture. You can use a lip scrub or if you don’t have one handy just put granulated sugar in a warm wet washcloth and rub. Find your favorite shade of shimmer long wear lipstick whether you are going bright or nude. For Rihanna’s bright lips I love Stila’s Long Wear Lip Color in Lover. For Janet’s nude lips, try Stila’s In The Nude.
