Kate Hudson, Posh, Tori Spelling, Jessica Alba and January Jones are a few of the celebs who are expecting.
“Dressing your bump can be a challenge, whether you are walking down the street or on the red carpet,” says maternity fashion expert and co-founder of Moody Mamas Inc. Elise Rosemarin, “but with fashion trends like maxi dresses, being a pregnant fashionista has never been easier.”
Here Elise shares some Summer trends and how to wear them, if you are expecting.
The ‘70s are back in a groovy way. With high-waisted, long, wide leg trousers, floppy hats, fringe detailing and of course maxi dresses, the boho chic look can be totally fabulous when worn correctly.
Embrace the maxi dress. Pregnant women look like goddesses when they wear chic flowing dresses, but keep the fabric weight in mind. If you are prone to hot flashes, choose a lightweight maxi such as one that is made from cotton or a jersey so that you’ll feel breezy rather than overheated.
Go for the high-waisted, bell bottom this season. With that burgeoning belly, now is not the time to have any constraints on your stomach area. Not only uncomfortable, this look is not flattering on the pregnant body if the belly has “popped”.
From stripes, ropes and anchors, the nautical look is sizzling this Summer. An iconic look that celebrates Summer, this style works well with most body types.
Dare to wear a stripe. A lot of pregnant women fear that stripes will make them look larger but that is not the case. Choose a stripe that goes on a diagonal rather than in large horizontal blocks for the most figure friendly option.
Go “overboard” on nautical themed accessories. No need to over do it with a sailor hat and an anchor necklace. An easy way to incorporate this trend is simply by pairing a nautical looking item with a classically colored palette or a cute pair of boat shoes.
Feminine and romantic, floral prints are a dominating trend this season. As diverse as flowers themselves, the variety of floral prints available in the market right now is extensive. From soft, flowy, ditsy motifs to large scaled vibrant flowers, floral prints can be worn as an all over or just as an accessory.
Keep it subtle for perfection. Floral prints can look a bit costumey and frumpy if not worn correctly.
Wear this look if you prefer large oversized clothing- you will look like you are wearing your grandmother’s muumuu.
Sheer fabrics like silks, cotton and linen are immensely popular this Summer and with reason: they are glorious to wear in hot weather. Not only do these fabrics breathe well but they also offer a flirty and breezy appeal.
Pick one item to wear that is sheer rather than making it your whole ensemble. If you are opting for a sheer top, wear a similar colored camisole underneath.
Expose too much skin. Sheer pieces can look like lingerie, which is better worn in the bedroom so choose wisely.
From vintage inspired lace details to jeweled encrusted safari prints, the general mood of this Summer’s fashion is festive. Frilly lace embellishments and dangly feathered earrings make a bold fashion statement and can add a sentiment of luxury to any outfit.
Incorporate trends into your maternity wardrobe via accessories like necklaces, earrings and shoes. The best thing about investing in a few stylish accessories is that you can wear them post-partum and you can even wear them in your “pre-maternity size”.
Be afraid to get crafty! A lot of the embellishment trends can be homemade so no need to spend mega-bucks just to try a trend. Grab some fringe and add it to an old purse for a rejuvenated look or learn to crochet and make your own special piece.
