“Glee” star and 2011 Emmy nominee Chris Colfer told Access Hollywood that he learned that his upcoming departure from his hit FOX series had been announced after he read it on Twitter.

Access’ Shaun Robinson spoke to the 21-year-old on Thursday morning following the news that he nabbed a nomination in the Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series category for his Kurt Hummel role.

“Yesterday on Twitter,” Chris said, when asked how he learned his exit had been announced. “Yeah, I found out that they made that announcement. I didn’t necessarily know that it was going to be our last season next year, I knew something like that was coming up eventually. I mean, we can’t be there forever.

“I don’t necessarily want to leave so soon, but I mean, it’s fine. It’s what it is. And all things come to an end,” he continued.

The actor told Shaun that he feels very proud of what he’s accomplished thus far.

“As a performer, I feel so fulfilled. I have two Emmy nominations and just from hearing from people out in the world about how much the character has helped people,” Chris said. “If it’s time for a conclusion, I’m fulfilled with it, and I’m fine with it.”

On Wednesday, show co-creator Ryan Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter that Chris, Lea Michele (Rachel Berry) and Cory Monteith (Finn Hudson) would be leaving the show at the end of Season 3, noting that both Chris and Lea were involved in the talks about their characters graduating.

However, a source close to the show told Access that the three actors had “no idea” the news was coming.

Despite his looming graduation, Chris, who said he’s planning on taking his grandmother to the Emmy ceremony in September, is ecstatic with his second nomination.

“It feels great! I’m just as excited as the first time,” he gushed. “It’s just a huge category. It’s Best Actor in a Comedy, and we all know that Kurt’s not funny, so I’m very, very happy to be a part of it.”

Shaun also spoke with “Glee” Co-Executive Producer Ian Brennan and Executive Producer Dante Di Loreto about the upcoming departures.

“We always knew that we didn’t want one of those shows where they’re all sophomores for 13 years. It just seems like a dishonest way to tell the story,” Brennan said. “It’s just going to make for a really emotional, fantastic season.”

Di Loreto added, “They’re graduating from high school, first of all, let’s be clear, and it’s something we’ve been talking about for a long time.”

Chris also addressed rumors that a “Glee” spin-off could be in the works for his character.

“I’ve only heard rumors, I’m not attached to anything officially,” the young actor told Shaun. “So, we’ll see where that goes.”
