NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Darren Criss went from hopeful singer-songwriter to television sensation when he debuted as Blaine on “Glee” earlier this season, but would he be willing to leave the FOX show behind for a Warblers spin-off?
“Hey, I’m just happy to be invited to the party,” Darren told Access Hollywood at the Oxygen upfront presentation in New York on Monday. “A spin-off, whatever they want, I’m happy where I am.
“I think Blaine serves a really cool function in the grander scheme of ‘Glee,’ so I don’t think we need to focus particularly — you know, but if they want to do it, hey, I’m down! Whatever they want,” he added.
While The Warblers spin-off is still just talk, the fictional Dalton Academy singing team is getting its own album.
“I’m excited… it drops April 19,” Darren said, referring to “Glee: The Music Presents The Warblers.”
“It’s just a bunch of Warbler songs so I’ve been really happy that people have had such a positive response,” he added. “I would have never guessed in a million years that that would happen.”
“Glee” will wrap up its second season on May 24, but fans will be able to catch Darren, playing himself, on “The Glee Project” on Oxygen, beginning Sunday, June 12.
In the new reality show, Darren serves as a mentor to 12 contestants vying to earn a seven-episode arc in “Glee” Season 3.
“I was so happy that they even asked me in the first place,” Darren said of his new role. “These kids are so talented and they’re so, they make me look like a hack, basically.
“Basically they just let me be there and behold the talent that is those kids, so it’s great,” Darren added.
