'Glee's' Matthew Morrison Divulges Details About His Sex Life, New Album & Fame In Details Mag
Making women swoon is nothing new for Matthew Morrison.
The 32-year-old “Glee” star, who plays musical mentor Will Schuester on the hit FOX show, got his start on Broadway (he originated the Link Larkin role in 2002’s “Hairspray”; later played in the film by Zac Efron) — where he says he enjoyed plenty of attention from his female co-stars.
“There was so much opportunity,” Matthew told Details mag (in an interview for their December/January issue) of his dating situation in New York. “There were all these beautiful, beautiful dancers. As a straight guy I had some room. There were the shared interests in singing and dancing, and I always find dancing with someone very evocative and sexual.
“I definitely hooked up with a lot of girls when I was a young guy on Broadway,” Matthew continued. “ It was exciting. Very joyous and free.”
While he may have made the most of his virile younger years, previous to those days Matthew joined a Bible-study group in college, didn’t lose his virginity until the age of 21 and says he’s still confused by being labeled a “sex symbol.”
“I’m not comfortable with the idea of my sex appeal, but I know in my job I have to use it,” Matthew told the mag. “I wish I could say I got to this point in my career based on my talent, but I don’t think that’s true.”
While the hunky singer’s chiseled abs and charming curls may have helped Matthew land his dream job, his sex appeal is seemingly going to waste at home. After working 15-hour days on the “Glee” set, the star said he comes home, pours a glass of wine and rehearses his lines for the next day before collapsing in front of a movie… alone.
“It’s been a while,” Matthew told the mag when asked about dating. “Meeting people, you wonder, ‘What does this person see in me?’
“I’m not a good friend right now. I’m not a good boyfriend,” he added. “It’s not that I’m selfish — I’m just focused.”
In addition to his daily “Glee” grind, Matthew is working on a side project – a solo album (due to be released in February). He describes it as “Buble-esque.”
“It’s kind of a risk to come out with an album right now,” Matthew told the mag. “I can’t release something that is s***. Most of the songs I wrote are personal.”
As for his small screen co-stars, Matthew enjoys being a mentor to many of the “Glee” cast members off-screen as well.
“I’ve taken a few under my wing,” Matthew said. “I don’t want to say they idolize me, but…”
“I find myself learning a lot from the set. I do look at stuff people on the show are doing, and I don’t judge them, but I question it,” he continued. “I say to myself, ‘Keep quiet.’ Fame, you know, it’s like a handgun — in the wrong hands, it’s dangerous.”
