SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --

The actress who played Scarlett O’Hara’s younger sister Suellen in the 1939 movie “Gone With the Wind” has died.

Evelyn Keyes was 91.

A close friend says Keyes died July 4th of uterine cancer at her home near Santa Barbara, California.

Keyes also played Robert Montgomery’s girlfriend in “Here Comes Mr. Jordan” and Al Jolson’s wife in “The Jolson Story.” But her acting career was often overshadowed by her personal life, with turbulent marriages to bandleader Artie Shaw and director John Huston.

After her film career and marriages ended, Keyes turned author, producing an autobiographical novel as well as her memoirs, titled “Scarlett O’Hara’s Younger Sister.”
