LOS ANGELES, Calif. (November 2, 2006) — Multi platinum singer-songwriter Gwen Stefani will light up the 2006 American Music Awards with the debut performance of her new single “Wind It Up” from her much anticipated second solo album “The Sweet Escape.” Stefani, known for her energetic, heart pumping live performances will debut the single to a packed house at the show which airs LIVE on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 on ABC-TV. The show, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will emanate from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA. and is produced by dick clark productions, inc.
The 2006 American Music Awards also welcome a star-studded roster of celebrity presenters to be announced, who will help hand out twenty American Music Awards representing the best of Pop/Rock, Country, Soul/Rhythm & Blues, Rap/Hip Hop, Latin, Alternative, Adult Contemporary and Contemporary Inspirational music. Gwen Stefani joins an all-star line-up of live performances including: Beyoncé, Carrie Underwood, Dixie Chicks, Josh Groban, Mary J. Blige, Nelly Furtado, Pussycat Dolls, Rascal Flatts, Snow Patrol and Tenacious D.
Winners of the American Music Awards are selected by the public. A national sampling of approximately 20,000 taking into account geographic location, age, sex and ethnic origin, will be sent ballots by the National Family Opinion, Inc. firm under the supervision of Broadcast Research and Consulting, Inc. Names of the nominees on the ballot were compiled from data supplied by the music industry trade publication, Radio & Records and Nielsen Soundscan which tracks retail music sales. Results of the voting, tabulated by the Ernst & Young LLP accounting firm are kept secret until envelopes are opened during the presentation ceremonies.
