LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

After enjoying a “relax and enjoy life phase” that added a few pounds to her slim frame, Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about how she got back into shape.

“As I write this, I am finishing the amazing three-week-long ‘Clean’ detox program,” the actress and mother of two wrote in her latest GOOP newsletter and on her Web site of the same name.

Gwyneth revealed the new detox program didn’t zap her energy and allowed her to function normally.

“This program allowed me to work and exercise regularly, something I cannot do if I am on a liquid-only detox,” the actress wrote.

The “Iron Man” star said she followed the program, by Dr. Alejandro Junger, which consists of liquid meals and a solid one, and now, she feels better.

“I followed it to the letter and I can report that it worked wonders. I feel pure and happy and much lighter,” she wrote. “I dropped the extra pounds that I had gained during a majorly fun and delicious ‘relax and enjoy life phase’ about a month ago.”

Gwyneth, who is known for trying out different diets – she was a longtime subscriber to macrobiotic eating — said the cleanse was “amazing,” but suggested others speak with medical professionals before adopting the program themselves.

“I also really enjoyed learning about the incredible health benefits of resting your digestive system, etc. This thing is amazing,” she wrote. “And don’t forget to ask your doctor if a cleanse is right for you.”
