“The Hangover” broke records for a rated R comedy when it was released last year and the boys are just about to reunite for round 2.
“We’ll probably start [filming] later on in the year,” Justin Bartha, who played missing pal Doug Billings in the Las Vegas guy’s adventure film, told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman on the Golden Globes red carpet.
Despite the rumors on the Internet, however, former “High School Musical” star Zac Efron hasn’t signed on for the sequel.
“Someone said that IMDB (the Internet Movie Data Base) or something said [that Zac was going to be in the sequel] and the director, Todd Phillips – I’m gonna quote him when he said, ‘IMDB is not the Wall Street Journal. It’s written by some fat 15 year old kid in Tampa!’”
“That is the first that I’ve heard of that rumor,” “Office” star Ed Helms who played Stu Price in the comedy, told Laura on Sunday. “Are you sure it wasn’t Zach Galifainakis who is already on board?”
But while Zac Efron isn’t in the cast, Justin said he wouldn’t mind seeing the heartthrob added to the fold.
“If it gets people in the seats, yes, Zac Efron and the ‘Twilight’ guy,” Justin said of casting a few more young men in the comedy. “All the ‘Twilight’ guys — every one of them with their shirts off, and Will Smith.”
Ed too said he’d welcome Zac into the group.
“I love that guy,” he commented. “He’s actually really funny.”
Zac himself said he hasn’t “got that call yet” to join the franchise, but he would be interested.
“That would be amazing,” the 22-year-old smiled. “I think that they’re amazing and I love the cast that they’ve got going on.”
As for what Zac could do in the movie? While Laura suggested he could play the younger brother of Phil Wenneck (Bradley Cooper’s character), Ed had another idea.
“Or the next naked guy to jump out of the trunk of a car,” he said, referencing Ken Jeong’s Mr. Chow in the original film. “That’s how we get butts in the seats.”
