NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Ryan and Trista Sutter are reality TV’s first couple. They managed to defy the odds by not having their made-in-TV relationship crash & burn. It’s been 10 years since the first-ever “Bachelorette,” Trista, fell in love and married firefighter Ryan back in 2003.
“We have always made each other, and our family, a priority. To know that Trista has my back, and I have hers, every day, that’s what keeps us going,” reveals Ryan to Healthy Hollywood.
Fast forward a decade, the couple has two young kids and live a quiet life far away from the reality TV spotlight in Colorado.
“We made a conscious effort to get away from the public eye because that was something we agreed upon on when we got married – that our family would be the most important thing,” adds Ryan.
“Normal” is how Ryan describes their life. He is still a full-time firefighter and Trista is a children’s clothing designer. Instead of milking their reality fame for cash and prizes, the couple uses their celebrity clout to help out various charities.
Ryan teamed up this summer with one of his favorite charities, FIRST DESCENTS, to launch the ACE Brand Champion Challenge. Now, July 8 through August 19, 2013, Ryan is encouraging individuals to share their stories and photographs that showcase what makes them or someone they know a champion.
FIRST DESCENTS is an amazing non-profit that offers young cancer fighters and survivors outdoor adventure experiences. “Being part of an organization like this puts a smile on my face every day, to see how these incredible young people who are fighting this disease come alive when they’re out kayaking or hiking – there’s really nothing more rewarding.”
The couple hopes to pass along their philanthropic spirit to their young kids, Max, 5, and 3-year-old Blakesley. “We love watching them grow and it’s important to us to continue exposing them to different experiences so they can learn new things about themselves and the world. Philanthropy and giving to those less fortunate is a value Trista and I have always shared and one that we hope to instill in our children as well.”
