Need a reason to celebrate? Why not celebrate your favorite food. Believe it or not, there’s a food honored just about every day of the year. There is ‘National Meatball Day’. Peanut Butter & Jelly has its own holiday. And, there is ‘National Grilled Cheese Day’.
So, what’s today’s special food holiday? It’s ‘National Potato Chip Day’! Yup! So, let the chips fall where they may. Whether you prefer yours smothered in dip, fried to a crisp or sprinkled with seasoning – open a bag and take a crunch. C’mon it is a holiday.
Yet, for those of us looking for healthier potato chip, ‘Friedman’s Lunch’ in New York City shared with Healthy Hollywood a chip recipe. Stars like Katie Holmes, Katherine McPhee and Philip Seymour Hoffman have been spotted munching on these healthy/gluten-free snacks.
Friedman’s Lunch Healthy Potato Chip:
Slice 5 Idaho potatoes very thin on a mandolin slicer. Soak the potato slices in cold water for a few minutes. Fry the slices in canola oil at 300-degrees until golden brown. Sprinkle the slices with any spice you want (such as: garlic salt, lemon pepper, taco seasoning, chili powder, popcorn seasoning and more). Sprinkle with Kosher salt.
So, simple! In honor of ‘National Potato Chip Day’, go ahead and crunch a chip minus the guilt.
