Healthy Hollywood: Try It On Tuesday – Get Sweet On Honey!

Aw, honey! It’s one of nature’s finest elixirs. Its feel-good uses span the centuries. Cleopatra had folks buzzing ages ago with her beautifying milk and honey baths. And, modern day wellness gurus all cite honey’s healing benefits.

In addition to being a sweetener, honey can help soothe a sore throat, boost the energy of an athlete, marinate meat or moisturize skin – plus there are 101 other uses. “Honey isn’t just for the kitchen. This versatile ingredient spans the bathroom vanity, the gym and the medicine cabinet as well,” reveal the folks at the National Honey Board.

At just 64 calories per tablespoon, honey is sweet on being good for you! “Honey is naturally produced by honey bees for their own sustenance. As such, honey has naturally occurring trace of antioxidants, minerals and other nutrients. Pure honey has benefits to nourish the whole body. Honey is all-natural energy boost,” states the National Honey Board.

Honey is also nature’s skin care. “Honey attracts and retains moisture and may keep away early signs of aging, like wrinkles, by maintaining proper moisture. As an anti-irritant, honey is a preferred ingredient for those with sensitive skin and acne, and can be used to help manage breakouts while keeping your skin moisturized,” according to the National Honey Board.

To make it simple to “bee” beautiful, the National Honey Board teamed up with celebrity skincare guru, Ole Henriksen, who created a special 5 step DIY facial treatment for pampering skin at home.

The National Honey Board shared a few of Ole’s beauty treatments with Healthy Hollywood.

Honey Yogurt Purifying Cleanser:

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons yogurt

2 tablespoons honey

2 teaspoons lemon

Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl. Pat cleanser on your face with upward circular motions for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse.

Re-texturing Deep Cleansing Honey and Flaxseed Scrub:

Ingredients:

1 oz. flaxseed meal

1 oz. almond oil

1 tablespoon honey

Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl; allow to sit for a few minutes. Pat scrub onto your face using upward circular motions for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse.
