LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Actress-author Hilary Duff married NHL star Mike Comrie in a fairytale wedding in August, but the day was almost ruined after a bagel spelled bad news for the star’s pearly whites.

“The beginning part of the [wedding] day I lost my tooth – [my] tooth fell out in my hand,” Hilary told Ellen DeGeneres of the mishap, in an interview for Monday’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” “Thank God I didn’t swallow it. Not good for a bride on her wedding day.

“I bit into a bagel,” Hilary continued of what caused the tooth tragedy. “I was sitting on the bed with my mom and my sister and they’re like, ‘You’re an idiot! You did not! Come on!’”

The former Disney star’s dental disaster occurred around 11 AM – a mere three hours before it was time to start getting ready for her big day – causing the star to (understandably) panic.

“I burst into to tears,” Hilary told Ellen. “Then I started laughing at myself and then I really burst into tears.”

The crisis was luckily averted thanks to Hilary’s “amazing” wedding planner, Mindy Weiss.

“Mindy’s sister’s husband’s best friend is a top dentist in Montecito and she called him up,” she told Ellen.

Catch the entire interview with Hilary when it airs on “The Ellen DeGeneres” show on Monday at 4 PM.
