LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Caption Neil Patrick Harris hosts the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, September 20, 20092009 Emmy Awards host Neil Patrick Harris will have the chance to show off his musical chops again on the 100th episode of his CBS comedy, “How I Met Your Mother,” Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported.
“Fans of Neil’s performance at the Emmys will enjoy the ending of the episode. It’s not a musical episode, but all of a sudden it becomes one. It’ll probably be one of the craziest things we’ve ever done on the show,” executive producer Craig Thomas told the mag. “There will be a huge Barney story culminating in an enormous musical number that we’re going to spend way too much of Twentieth Television’s money on.”
Neil, who plays Barney Stinson on the show, earned praise for his hosting duties of the awards broadcast, but his big number won’t hold the show’s only fireworks.
The episode, set to air in January, also promises fresh revelations about the show’s titular mother.
“There is some serious ‘Mother’ action in episode 100,” Craig said. “It’ll be the closest Ted’s ever come to [discovering who she is]. He’s getting a step closer every episode this season, and episode 100 [we] kind of go bananas with it.”
