NEW YORK, N.Y. --
Caption Howard Stern attends a screening of ‘Green Zone’ in New York City on February 25, 2010Rumors have swirled that Howard Stern could fill Simon Cowell’s judging shoes after he leaves “American Idol” at the end of this season for “The X Factor” – but the radio shock jock says the FOX series is in trouble because the judges aren’t offering any meaningful critiques.
“It’s not that I’m not a fan of Ellen, [but] the show is very weak,” Howard told Access Hollywood on Thursday night at the “Green Zone” New York premiere. “They have a bunch of people on there who don’t have an opinion.”
The SIRIUS XM radio show host said the reality singing competition is “in trouble.”
“To sit there and judge a karaoke contest, the one criteria would be to have an opinion,” he continued. “It seems that two or three of the judges barely have an opinion and the show is in trouble, let’s face it.”
Howard said the show could benefit from his talents, but doubts that would ever become a reality.
“They need somebody. They probably do need me, who knows if that would ever come together,” he told Access. “Ellen and the other one, Kara DioGuardi, have said that they can’t work with me, the both of them. I don’t think anybody could work with them. I’m not sure that what they do is work… the show needs somebody with an opinion, and it seems like people are afraid to give an opinion.
”‘I think you’re a good singer, I don’t know if you’re a good singer, but you have a good look,’” he continued mocking the “Idol” judge’s critiques. “It’s ridiculous!”
