‘Iron Man 2’ Lifts Off With $100M Overseas

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- “Iron Man 2” won’t blast into domestic theaters until May 7, but the superhero sequel is already exploding overseas.
The Robert Downey Jr.-starring film has earned $100.2 million so far in 53 countries, according to Paramount Pictures International.
That early total includes $12.2 million in the UK and $10.8 million in Korea.
Additionally, in Russia, it earned $8.2 million – a record opening for a live action film distributed by Paramount.
As with “Iron Man,” Paramount is handling distribution duties for the Marvel Studios film.
The film has yet to open in a number of nations, with China, India, Finland, Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Japan still to come.
The first “Iron Man” was a hit at home and abroad in 2008, earning $318 million in the U.S. and $266 million in foreign box office receipts.
According to Deadline, the sequel is predicted to earn $155 million in its opening weekend domestically, with “The Dark Knight’s” $158 million three-day record in its sights.
