LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
M.I.A. has a new Valentine.
The “Paper Planes” singer, who performed alongside Kanye West, Jay-Z, T.I. and Lil Wayne at the Grammy Awards last Sunday on her due date, gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday, she confirmed on her MySpace blog.
It’s the first child for M.I.A. (whose real name is Maya Arulpragasm) and her fiance, musician Benjamin Bronfman.
“My early stage labor kicked in around 2 AM” after the Grammys, she wrote. “He is healthy, fine, beautiful and the most amazing thing ever on this planet, of course I’m his mum!”
She also added that she and the baby are planning tour dates for 2010 and “making mix tapes.”
And the new mom’s big month isn’t over yet — she’s nominated for an Academy Award for her song “O… Saya,” with A.R. Rahman from Oscar frontrunner “Slumdog Millionaire.” She was nominated for two awards at the Grammys — Record of the Year for summer hit “Paper Planes,” and Best Rap Song for “Swagga Like Us,” the song she performed at the show.
