So young and so talented, the endearingly fresh-faced Jake Gyllenhaal, whose fans call themselves Gyllehaalics, is one of the most sought after leading men of his generation. He seems determined to seek out and star in extremely good films, despite their potential for controversy.
Two of his standout performances, both in 2005, couldn’t be more polar opposites; first, as the emotionally raw closeted gay cowboy, Jack Twist, in the smash hit “Brokeback Mountain,” and then, as a Marine sniper in the Iraq war movie where ‘nothing happens,’ “Jarhead.”
Risks like these only seem to have enhanced his career potential in a town that doesn’t always value risk. His all-American good looks and “aww shucks” smile fill out the picture of a fascinating and intelligent actor who will no doubt continue to amaze and enthrall us with his deep well of talent.
And it doesn’t hurt that his sister, two years his elder, Maggie Gyllenhaal, is also a talented rising Hollywood star.
