James Franco is getting candid about his thoughts on the adult entertainment industry.

During Newsweek’s annual Oscar Roundtable discussion, which also included fellow nominees Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Williams Colin Firth and Annette Bening, the actor turned the conversation topic to pornography when asked about what it takes to land a good big screen kiss.

“I think if anybody who has made a home sex tape knows, what feels best doesn’t always look best,” James said with a laugh. “I remember when I was 19 doing that, and then watching it back and thinking, ‘Oh, that looks horrible.’”

“You have a lot of respect for those actors in pornography, because they are really not just doing it, they’re really selling it,” he continued. “It’s the same thing with a kiss. It’s not just the kiss that feels best, it’s an image. Something different is happening if it’s a good kiss.”

The upcoming Oscar host might put his respect for adult film stars to work on the big screen in the upcoming Linda Lovelace project, directed by his “Howl” helmers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, Deadline reported.

The actor is reportedly in talks to play pornographer Chuck Traynor in the biopic “Lovelace,” not to be confused with the other Linda Lovelace movie, “Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story,” which once had Lindsay Lohan attached and now reportedly is starring Malin Akerman.

According to Deadline, Kate Hudson has been offered the title role in “Lovelace.”

First up though, James will host the 83rd Annual Academy Awards with Anne Hathaway on February 27 live on ABC at 5 PM PT.
