PASADENA, Calif. -- “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” is one of the Bravo reality TV franchise’s most dramatic installments and it appears they have one very famous fan - James Gandolfini… sort of.
When asked at the Television Critics Association Winter 2011 Session for HBO’s “Cinema Verite” about which reality TV shows the cast watches, the former “Sopranos” patriarch revealed he’s seen the show.
“I have seen ‘Housewives of Atlanta,’” he admitted
“That was extraordinary, it really was,” he said with a raised eyebrow.
But Kim Zolciak and the gang might not want to take that as a compliment, as the actor noted that reality TV these days has “turned to sh**.”
In “Cinema Verite,” James plays Craig Gilbert, the television producer behind the real life groundbreaking ‘70s TV documentary, “An American Family,” which is considered by many to be the first reality TV show.
The film, which premieres on HBO in April, offers a behind-the-scenes look at what happened while filming the famous Santa Barbara family - The Louds - played by Diane Lane and Tim Robbins.
When asked if filming the show helped him with how he personally feels about press, James said he isn’t as bothered by the media these days as he used to be.
“I don’t think it’s so bad anymore, it’s part of what we do,” he said of tackling journalists’ questions.
James added he doesn’t get upset when people ask him about his life.
”[It’s your job to ask them]. That’s our responsibility not to answer them… I don’t get that many stupid questions really unless it’s a certain venue,” he said.
