James Van Der Beek: B---- In Apt. 23 Is 'Cancelled' But 'We Had A Blast'
ABC has terminated “Don’t Trust the B---- in Apt. 23’s” lease.
James Van Der Beek, who stars on the sitcom with Krysten Ritter and Dreama Walker, took to Twitter on Tuesday to share with fans that the show is ending, effective immediately.
“Sad to say ABC has pulled #Apt23 and will not be airing the 8 remaining episodes any time soon. Translation: we’ve basically been cancelled,” the actor wrote.
The former “Dawson’s Creek” hunk – whose frequent mocking of his teen heartthrob past brought many a laugh on the now-condemned series — said low ratings were to blame for the cancelation, despite the show’s popularity.
“I know most of you watched us on your own time & platform and that the competitive network scheduling game is irrelevant to you, but network TV is a business dictated by Nielson ratings,” he explained. “And while that’s an antiquated business model, it’s the only one they’ve got.”
Adding, “Thanks to all who tuned in. We had a blast making it. Can’t imagine a more fun work environment with better people. But onto the next…”
Despite the disappointing news, James asked his followers to refrain from trash-Tweeting the network for their decision to yank the show.
“And please, no bashing ABC. While I’m sure no one there would say they think they nailed it when it came to programming #Apt23 this year, you’ve got to give ABC props for ever picking us up in the first place,” he wrote. “They took a shot at something original & edgy. I respect them for it.”
James’ co-star Krysten also Tweeted, “Wow the support from you guys has been mind blowing. I love you! The best fans in the world! I sincerely appreciate you. #apt23”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “… B---- in Apt. 23” will be replaced with back-to-back new episodes of “Happy Endings,” beginning Tuesday.
