NEW YORK, New York --
Lisa Kudrow shared her voice while performing “Smelly Cat” on television, and now, her former “Friends” co-star, Jennifer Aniston, is finally set to unleash her own pipes in an upcoming film.
Michael Sucsy, the director of Jennifer’s next movie, “The Goree Girls,” told E! News columnist Marc Malkin that the actress will share her vocal skills in the movie.
“She can sing,” Sucsy said of Jennifer. “And she’s going to learn how to play the Dobro [an acoustic guitar with metal parts].”
The movie, which is out in 2010, focuses on the real-life story of The Goree Girls All String Band. Eight imprisoned women in Texas formed the band in the early 1940s. The women wrote and performed music, which became popular on the radio.
According to Texas Monthly, seven million Americans would tune their antennas to hear the girl group every Wednesday evening.
“These women learned to harmonize and they learned to play instruments,” Sucsy told E!. “They weren’t these amazing, accomplished singers who banded together. That’s what’s interesting about it.
“It’s not just like, ‘Hey, you can play the guitar, I can play the piano, I can play the harmonica. Let’s put a band together.’ It’s like, ‘We have to get out of jail, and if we have to put a band together to do that, then that’s what we’re going to do,’” he added.
Although Jennifer has signed on for the role, her fellow bandmates have yet to be cast.
“The Goree Girls” is just one of several projects the former “Friends” star has lined up. She recently filmed “The Baster” alongside Jason Bateman and Patrick Wilson and was most recently spotted alongside Gerard Butler filming “The Bounty.”
