Jennifer Lawrence Explains Pixie Cut, Reveals Childhood Crush On 'Early '90s Justin Timberlake'

Jennifer Lawrence debuted a new blond pixie cut in a photo posted on her Facebook page on Wednesday and the “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” star has explained what motivated her to lop off her locks.

“It grew to an awkward gross length, and I kept putting it back in a bun and I was like ‘I don’t want to do this,’ so I just cut it off,” the 23-year-old shared during a Tumblr Q&A and sitdown with director Francis Lawrence and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.

“It couldn’t get any uglier,” she added, of her pre-pixie hair.

But just because Jennifer has gone short in real life doesn’t mean Katniss Everdeen will adopt her new ‘do.

“This isn’t how Katniss is going to look in the next movies – I’m wearing a wig for filming,” she said, when asked by concerned “Hunger Games” audience members how the haircut would affect her on-screen appearance as the bow-wielding heroine.

When called upon to recount the “funniest moment” she experienced while filming the “Hunger Games” movies, Jennifer said she was injured by Finnick’s [played by Sam Claflin] trident during a fight scene.

“We were in the middle of doing this scene with the monkeys, so we’re all fighting these imaginary monkeys and it’s choreographed and all of sudden I was like, ‘Ahhh!’ It was like something just whipped my butt. Everybody was like, ‘Nothing happened – it was probably just a charlie horse,’” Jennifer explained.

The actress was convinced something actually hit her backside, especially after she developed a red mark.

“Josh [Hutcherson, who plays Peta] is telling me it’s the ancient [Hawaiian] spirits, and I’m believing it, and then we slowed down [the tape] and we saw that the end of Sam’s trident, when he was spinning, just flew off and whacked me in the butt going like, 100 miles per hour!”

Jennifer also dished on her childhood Hollywood crush, telling the crowd she was head over heels for “early ‘90s Justin Timberlake.”

“I remember buying the *NSYNC CD,” she said. “Remember how CDs had the pullout picture things? I got so overwhelmed with hormones, I almost threw up!”

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” hits theaters on November 22.
