NEW YORK, New York --

Moses Levi, the rapper known as Shyne, saw his career cut short when he was jailed on a 10-year-sentence on charges related to a 1999 incident also involving Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jennifer Lopez.

Diddy – then known as “Puff Daddy” – was acquitted, and with Shyne’s sentence now finished, the rapper has denied that his former mentor spoke with him recently to clear the air.

“My client wants to make it very clear that no such conversation between Mr. Combs and he ever occurred,” Oscar Michelen, Shyne’s attorney, said in a statement to Access Hollywood.

According to the lawyer, Shyne told him that the conversation, which Diddy cited on New York radio station Hot 97 last week, did not in fact occur.

“I want it known that this supposed conversation is a figment of Sean Combs’ imagination,” Shyne said. “He never spoke with me, he never visited me nor would I ever accept a phone call or visit from him. The only way I would do either of those things would be if he stepped up and did the right thing for the victims of the incident.”

Michelen, too, also denied knowledge of such a conversation.

“I was very surprised to hear Mr. Combs’ claims about talking with my client since I speak to Shyne all the time and he never mentioned anything about it,” he said.

“Knowing how he feels about Mr. Combs I know that it would have been very strange for Shyne to have spoken with him and not told anyone.”

Shyne, released from jail earlier this week, remains in custody at the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility pending the possibility of deportation.

The rapper, a former Bad Boy recording artist mentored by Diddy, released one album on the label during his sentence, the gold-selling “Shyne.” A second album, “Godfather Buried Alive,” was released on Def Jam in 2004.
