Jesse James was dubbed “the most hated man in America” after the allegations that he’d cheated on Sandra Bullock – and in his first sit-down interview since the news broke, he told “Nightline’s” Vicki Mabrey that he’s hit an even lower point than that.
“I think it’s, ‘Most hated man in the world,’ now,” he said self-deprecatingly in a clip from the interview, which airs in full on Tuesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “Nightline.”
“You cheated on your wife,” Vicki told him.
“Yup,” he responded, adding, “I took a pretty amazing life and marriage and threw it away.”
During the clip, Jesse became visibly emotional, beginning to tear up and later stepping away from the interview chair.
“Let me take a break for a second,” he said.
The interview came in the wake of Sandra’s People cover story last month, in which she revealed she’d adopted a son, Louis, and was filing for divorce from Jesse.
The former couple wed in 2005.
