LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Despite reports last week that John Mayer had moved on from Jennifer Aniston to start dating cocktail waitress and actress Scheana Marie, the singer told photographers over the weekend that he is, in fact, still single.

“If I had a girlfriend, she would be incredibly offended by me saying, ‘I don’t have a girlfriend,’” John told X17Online.com following a kickboxing workout in Santa Monica over the weekend. “That’s how you can be sure. I could say, ‘I’m not with anybody.’ That’d be a death wish if you were the woman.”

Adding, “If you were the woman and you stepped out and said, ‘I’m not with anybody, you’d have to go home and take a lashing for the next three weeks! So that’s the proof.”

On Friday, People reported that John had been spending time with Scheana, who he reportedly met in 2008 at the Beverly Hills cigar club Grand Havana Room, where she currently works.

The mag’s source claimed John and Scheana have been, “getting to know each other” and “spent time together over the past few months.”
