John Mayer On Split With Jen: ‘There’s No Lying, There’s No Cheating’

NEW YORK, New York --

John Mayer has reportedly confirmed his split with Jennifer Aniston, announcing that couple broke up due to “different chemistry.”

“Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I’ve ever met… I ended a relationship to be alone because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right,” he told OK! in New York on Saturday.

“People have different chemistry, they have different lives. It’s not about years,” the 30-year-old rocker reportedly said of their May-December romance.

Reports of the couple’s split surfaced last week on the heels of marriage rumors. Jen and John had dated for several months, making their public debut as a couple at a charity dinner in June with Aniston pal Courteney Cox and her husband, David Arquette.

John continued to the mag, saying the break-up was “normal.”

“It’s the most normal thing in the world,” he said. “There’s no lying, there’s no cheating. … It’s about going out with somebody, being truthful on the way in, being truthful in the middle and being truthful on the way out. You’re either a cheater or you break up and I’m not the first, I’m the second one. And that’s it.”
