Josh Duhamel On TV Return In 'Breaking Bad' Boss' New Show; Talks Wearing Pink Bunny Suit Last Wek
Josh Duhamel joins CBS later this year with the premiere of Vince Gilligan's new series (about an ill-fitting law enforcement team), "Battle Creek," and the actor admitted it was wife Fergie who got him into the executive producer's past work.
"I'm a bit of a geek about that show," Josh told AccessHollywood.com referring to Vince's last series, "Breaking Bad," as he took questions following the session for "Battle Creek" at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour in Beverly Hills on Thursday. "My wife, actually, is the one who introduced me to that show. She watched it from the very beginning."
Josh said the "Battle Creek" cast members "like to pick" Vince's brain on set about "Breaking Bad." Josh also broke some news, telling Access, "Battle Creek" will give a nod to Vince's old series.
"There's a homage to 'Breaking Bad' in the second episode," Josh continued.
"We bust up a cartel – not a crystal meth cartel, but something more strange than that," he added.
As "Las Vegas" on NBC was wrapping up, Josh hit the big screen in a host of films, including the "Transformers" franchise. Now a dad to a young son (he and Fergie welcomed Axl in August 2013), Josh told Access that family did play a role in his decision to return to series TV, a job that doesn't take him all over the world.
"Yeah, it is definitely something that I thought about. It made a lot easier to make that decision, knowing that I had a lot of really talented people around me, because it truly does make you better and that's something I've learned is that the better people you have around you, the better you're gonna be and so I feel safe," he said.
Josh also felt safe last week, venturing out in a giant pink bunny suit to promote a children's reading initiative.
"I'm not sure why I did it, but you know about it, so I guess we're bringing awareness to early education," he said when asked about the suit.
"It was pitched to me as an idea to launch this project, this Jumpstart initiative, and I really believe in it," Josh said of taking part in Jumpstart's Read For The Record campaign. "I think that the work that they've done in the last several years is incredible.
"This program is about getting children from lower income areas -- kids that don't necessarily have access to books and things like that, it gives them the opportunity to catch up and hopefully, eventually, catch up to the rest of the world," he added.
