Chantel Jeffries, the 21-year-old model who has recently been seen with Justin Bieber, has broken her silence about reports which claim she has a checkered past – something she denies.
“I have been overwhelmed by the negative attention I have recently received in the media. My family and I are particularly upset about the false accusations which have been published concerning my criminal history,” she said in a statement to NBC News.
Jeffries shot down reports that she has been arrested multiple times.
“For the record, I have not been arrested five times as has been stated in the media, nor am I guilty of physically assaulting anyone, in any way shape or form,” she continued.
Adding, “I am a full time student who had enjoyed a normal lifestyle, free from public scrutiny and criticism, until now. What has happened to me is wrong. I want people in general, and the media in particular, to consider the impact their disparaging comments have on the individual; especially when their comments are inaccurate.”
She also spoke out on Twitter about requests for her to appear on TV to clear her name, but stressed she’s not looking to profit on her overnight (semi) celebrity-adjacent status.
“Not about Justin, about false allegations against me only,” she said responding to a Twitter user when asked of reported talks for her to appear on the “Today” show. According to E!, that interview has since been scrapped.
“I would never ‘sell my story,’” she wrote. “It’s a hard thing, knowing who to truly trust.”
Jeffries was photographed last weekend with Beiber on the beach in Panama.
