Kara, who begins her run on Broadway on September 5, said she has a lot in common with the classic character.
“Feisty. She’s a bit of a survivor. She’ll kind of do whatever it takes to get the job done… That didn’t sound so good, but you know what I mean. She’s quick on her feet, so that’s good,” Kara told Access Hollywood Live’s Billy Bush when asked to compare herself to Roxie.
While she has the pipes, Kara said not every part of Roxie came easily.
“The first day, I told them I’m not really a great dancer,” she laughed.
Kara revealed she actually is wearing the same costume worn by a woman she wrote songs for – Ashlee Simpson, who previously played Roxie on Broadway.
“I can’t believe it fit,” she smiled. “I definitely had to push it in a little bit, but yeah, it fit.”
Kara added she plans to invite some of the “American Idol” judges to check her out in the production.
“I’m gonna invite Randy, well, all of them,” she said. “I hope Steven Tyler will come. I’d really love that. If he’s in New York, that would be great. He’s a great guy.”
