Kate Winslet Reacts To Melissa Leo's Kate-Inspired Academy Awards F-Bomb
After taking the stage at Sunday’s Oscars to accept her award for Best Supporting Actress, “The Fighter’s” Melissa Leo told the audience, “Really, really, really, wow… when I watched Kate [Winslet] two years ago, it looked so f***ing easy!”
Now, Kate has spoken out on inspiring the moment that had Academy Awards producers racing for censor button during the ceremony, thanks to the foul mouth of her “Mildred Pierce” co-star.
“Everyone dumps all this s*** on me, all the f***ing time,” Kate told Zap2It, laughingly, in an interview with the blog posted on Tuesday. “She is right though. She is absolutely right. I have got to hand it to her — and she did curse on the stage of the Academy Awards. That’s my kind of cool.”
Kate, whose superior acting chops have earned her six Academy Award nominations, including a Best Actress win in 2009 for “The Reader,” said she immediately sent Melissa a mocking text following Sunday’s expletive slip.
“I sent her a text message [that read]: ‘Is that f***ing you, Melissa? You motherf***ing cow,’” Kate told the blog. “And the b**** hasn’t called me back!”
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Access caught up with Melissa after her win for “The Fighter” at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, where she explained her dicey vernacular.
“As soon as I said it, of course I heard it,” the Oscar winner told Access after the show on Sunday. “I worked in television for a long, long time and I have a great respect for the rules especially of network television. I know where they earn their bread and butter and how they pay their workers and that’s through advertising. Advertising has a big problem [with what I said].”
The actress said she was simply caught up in her whirlwind Oscar moment.
“I apologize from the bottom of my heart,” she continued. “Just slipped out. I was a little excited.”
