Katie Couric: Fans Have Been 'So Supportive' Of My Engagement
A beaming Katie Couric got engaged to banker John Molner over Labor Day weekend and introduced her soon-to-be husband on her talk show this week.
While sharing her personal life with the world can have its drawbacks, Katie says the support she’s received from fans has made it worth it.
“I’m really happy. You know what’s been so nice is people!” the talk show host told Access Hollywood. “I think people love love, and I think they’ve been so excited for me and so supportive.”
Katie said part of the reason she wanted to share her happy news with viewers is that fans have seen her go through some rough times, so she wanted to let everyone in on the happiness as well.
“I think people have watched me kind of – not grow up, but grow older in front of them and deal with the death of my husband and later my sister,” she said. “And I think they know that I’ve had some sadness in my life. Certainly a lot of sadness.
“I think they’re just happy and excited that I’m embarking on this new chapter and I have to say, it’s been very gratifying,” she added.
And how did her two daughters, Carrie and Ellie, react to news their mom would be getting married again?
“I think they were a little [like] ‘Wow,’ because it’s been the three of us for so long,” Katie shared. “They really think the world of John. He loves them and so I think it’s all good and I think it’s going to be a while. And I’m focused on Carrie right now and her senior year of high school.”
The bride-to-be said her and John’s wedding ceremony will probably be pretty low-key, but meaningful.
“It’s not like I’m 22 and I’m going to plan a big thing with a big fluffy fancy dress,” she said. “I want to do something that feels right for us and our situation.”
Adding, “We both have kids and I think I want to do what’s tasteful and right.”
