LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Forget the “Cold” – Katy Perry is just plain “Hot.”
The pop star has been crowned the hottest of the hot in this year’s Maxim Hot 100 countdown, the popular men’s mag has announced.
It’s been a big year for the “Hot N Cold” singer – she announced her engagement to British funnyman Russell Brand in January, she paid a visit to the judges’ table during “American Idol” auditions, she joined the cast of the upcoming live-action “Smurfs” reboot as the voice of Smurfette and her latest album drops this summer.
So what makes Katy the hottest gal in Hollywood?
“We interview the world’s most beautiful women all the time and they always tell us, ‘I like a guy who’s funny,’ but here’s one who’s not lying,” Maxim Editor-In-Chief Joe Levy told AccessHollywood.com. “We picked her because she’s incredibly smart, she’s incredibly funny, she’s incredibly cool and she’s gorgeous.”
Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue cover girl (and tennis star Andy Roddick’s wife) Brooklyn Decker came in a close second to Katy, with big screen beauty Zoe Saldana placing third – a sizeable jump from her #29 ranking last year.
“To be perfectly honest, ‘Avatar’ is awesome – but she’s Uhura,” Levy added, referencing her “Star Trek” character. “Let’s not forget – we’re nerds. So you know, sexy ‘Star Trek’? Need I say more?”
“Gossip Girl” Blake Lively finished fourth, with Megan Fox fifth and Rihanna, Elisabetta Canalis, Olivia Munn, Kim Kardashian and Marisa Miller rounding out the top 10, respectively.
Other notable names on this year’s list include Scarlett Johansson (14), last year’s top choice Olivia Wilde (20), “Twilight Saga” beauty Ashley Greene (29), country cutie Taylor Swift (31), Angelina Jolie (38), “Modern Family” stunner Sofia Vergara (47), Britney Spears (54), ESPN and “Dancing” bombshell Erin Andrews (58) and Chelsea Handler (87).
Access Hollywood’s own Maria Menounos made the list once again, taking the 80th spot this year.
“Maria is not just beautiful, she’s really super funny,” Levy noted. “You only have to see her on Access to know why she keeps appearing on the Hot 100 year after year.”
A few mainstays of years passed were noticeably absent from the 2010 list, including Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore and Halle Berry. However, Levy said it wasn’t anything personal.
“We honestly pay attention to what people are doing, what they have coming out in the year, what they’ve just done,” he explained. “In the case of Halle Berry, if there’s an ‘X-Men’ movie coming, she’s there.”
Arguably, the hottest woman of the moment in Hollywood also didn’t make the cut – something Levy admitted may have been an accidental omission.
“I would say the one oversight in the Hot 100 this year is the absence of Betty White,” Levy said of the 88-and-a-half-year-old recent “Saturday Night Live” host.
