LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Kelly Clarkson doesn’t care what people say about her figure.
The original “American Idol” is healthy and happy and doesn’t worry about what weight she is, even if the press likes to make a habit of it.
“When people talk about my weight, I’m like, ‘You seem to have a problem with it; I don’t. I’m fine,’” Kelly told the September 2009 issue of SELF magazine. “I’ve never felt uncomfortable on a red carpet or anything.”
The powerhouse singer revealed she doesn’t follow a particular eating plan like so many other singers and starlets in Hollywood.
“Oh, God, no! Not that that’s a bad thing. I’m just not that kind of person. I love healthy stuff and junk an equal amount,” Kelly said. “Some days, I’ll be really into salads; some days, I’ll be into chicken-fried steak. Whatever I’m craving, I go for it. As long as you’re not eating the whole damn cake, have a piece.”
While she doesn’t eat with rules, Kelly does train by them. She revealed her healthiest habit is an intense training ritual.
“Recently, I got into this thing called Crossfit, and I love it! It’s like boot camp. You never work out more than 35 minutes, but it’s so intense,” Kelly said. “You do things like box jumps, then 50 sit-ups, then 50 squats and then running. Me, my backup singers and my hair-and-makeup girl do it together. They laugh at me, because most of the time they’re like, ‘Oh, my God, I don’t want to go,’ and I’m the one saying, ‘I’m ready!’ It makes me feel like GI Jane. It’s very empowering. I feel like I can whup ass! And in my shows, everybody has noticed. They’re like, ‘Dude, you have 100 percent more energy!’”
If she sounds confident, it’s because Kelly is.
“Self confidence comes from not focusing on yourself,” Kelly said of her positive outlook. “When you’re focused on your nose being too big, your eyes being too deep-set or your hair being too red, that’s when you start freaking out and believing the things other people say. Anyway, who cares what they say about you? They’ll not even remember you in five minutes.”
