NEW YORK, New York --

Kelly Ripa was in New York’s Times Square today sending a text message to help kick-off of a unique “text-a-thon” for a cause.

During September, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Electrolux and Kelly Ripa are holding the text-a-thon to help raise support for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund whose mission is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer.

“Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is the perfect opportunity to remind people that we need to raise funds to help find a method of early detection, and ultimately a cure, for ovarian cancer,” Ripa said. “It’s a deadly disease that affects thousands of women and their families each year.“But there’s hope. That’s why I am so grateful to Electrolux for stepping up once again to help me raise money and awareness to support OCRF.”

Throughout September, Americans can donate $5 to the cause by texting the word “KELLY” to 85944 from their mobile phones - or logging on to www.kelly-confidential.com. To drive participation and help spread the word, each day people log on to the Web site, they will be entered for a chance to win a luxury front-load washer and dryer from Electrolux in Turquoise Sky, the color inspired by the teal ribbon of ovarian cancer awareness.

“Electrolux is proud to support the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and its efforts to fund the research that will eradicate this deadly disease; that’s why we’re donating $200 to the OCRF for every Turquoise Sky washer and dryer pair purchased as part of our commitment to donate more than $500,000 to help fight ovarian cancer,” said Electrolux Major Appliances COO, Keith McLoughlin.

Also during September, visitors to Kelly Confidential can help Ripa spread awareness for this important cause by sending a virtual T-shirt to a friend. For every “T-mail” sent, Electrolux will donate $1 to the OCRF. Visitors can also purchase a limited edition T-shirt designed by Ripa; 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts will go to OCRF.

The Electrolux line of stylishly designed appliances, which recently made its debut in North America, boast a distinctive curved-front design, signature blue LEDs electronic controls and first-in-class features such as one button you push to cook the perfect turkey and a new induction hybrid cook top that makes cooking easier, faster and more efficient.

The entire Electrolux appliance collection is available nationwide through select independent appliance dealers and at Best Buy, Lowe’s and Sears.
