“I’ll always have love for Britney,” he told the December 16 issue of the U.K.’s Hello! Magazine, just a week after getting candid with People. “I never left her. It’s just we were going through tough times… I’ll always love Britney; maybe not the same way that I did when I was in love with her.”
But could the former couple, who have two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, ever reconcile?
“There were times when I was up and down about it, but I just figure that I’ve made all the right decisions,” he told the British mag.
The courts seem to agree – Kevin continues to have sole legal and physical custody of their kids, and he said his oldest son is beginning to take after him.
“Preston’s real outgoing. He seems to be a real daddy’s boy, too,” he said. “He’s very kind-hearted. I was that way when I was young. I feel like he’s picked up that trait from me.”
But even when their embattled mom hit a very public rock bottom at the beginning of the year, he didn’t lose faith in her.
“In my heart, I never felt she’d do anything wrong to the children,” he said. “But some of her lowest points were my lowest points, too.”
With Britney looking healthy and happy and spending more time with the kids in recent weeks as she promotes her latest chart-topper, “Circus,” Kevin’s glad to see her return to success – and a more full-fledged motherhood.
“I’m happy that they get to spend time with their mother,” he said. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. I definitely feel like their mom is really, really important in their life and it is really working out well right now…. I’m really, really proud of how far she’s come.”
