BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. --

A true legend in the world of George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series has joined the cast of “Game of Thrones” as it continues production on its second season.

British actor Roy Dotrice, who actually voiced the audio books for much of the series of fantasy novels, will play Hallyne, the pyromancer, Martin himself confirmed on his “not a blog” on Sunday.

“Yes, it’s ROY DOTRICE in the role of Hallyne the pyromancer, chief of the Guild of Alchemists,” Martin wrote.

Dotrice actually appeared in the hit television show Martin wrote for in the late 1980’s, “Beauty and the Beast,” a fact the writer was pleased to note.

“Down under Manhattan, in the tunnel community of ‘BEAUTY AND THE BEAST,’ Roy played Father, the wise leader of the tunnel folk,” Martin noted. “Later, as audiobook reader, he did all the myriad voices in the first three Ice & Fire novels.”

Dotrice’s character, Hallyne, will become an associate, of sorts, with Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) as “the imp” prepares to defend, in his new role as the Hand of the King, King’s Landing.

Hallyne’s order, The Alchemists’ Guild, are responsible for building wildfire, a very potent substance that can be ignited with the tiniest of spark and is very hard to extinguish.

Dotrice was actually cast as Grand Maester Pycelle in Season 1 of the series, but reportedly withdrew due to health issues, according to winter-is-coming.net.

“Roy is one of the finest actors I have ever had the privilege of working with, and I’m thrilled to have him back on the series,” Martin said in his blog.

The actor also played King Balor in “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” which reunited him with “Beauty and the Beast” actor Ron Perlman. Additionally, Dotrice played Zeus in the Kevin Sorbo-fronted series “Hercules.”
