Kristen Stewart Beats Out Jennifer Lawrence For Lie Down In Darkness Lead (Report)
Despite making headlines in recent days for her personal woes, Kristen Stewart’s career is moving forward. The actress has reportedly nabbed a role sought after by “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence.
According to New York Magazine’s Vulture, the 22-year-old has landed the lead role in “Lie Down In Darkness,” based on William Styron’s 1951 novel.
Kristen will reportedly play Peyton Loftis, who lives in the shadow of her disabled sister and must contend with her dysfunctional family – including an abusive alcoholic father.
In the June issue of Elle magazine Kristen opened up about her love of the story and character.
“I want to play Peyton more than anything I can possibly taste or touch in my life. I want to play her so bad. They’re the most f***ed-up family. There’s a script adaptation… and it’s good,” she told the mag. “Two people vying for the part (of the father) are Daniel Day-Lewis and Colin Firth. Daniel would be perfect.”
Jennifer also recently opened up about her love of the character and wanting the role.
“I am obsessed with that part,” the “Hunger Games” and “X-Men” star told W Magazine. “I have this feeling of protectiveness over characters I want to play. I worry about them — if someone else gets the part, I’m afraid they won’t do it right; they’ll make the character a victim or they’ll make her a villain or they’ll just get it wrong somehow. I’m trying to write the director to convince him that I should be in his movie. I’ll chase him if I have to. I’ll sit outside his house.”
In addition to “Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” Kristen is starring in the big screen adaption of “On the Road” with Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst and Amy Adams, slated to hit theaters this fall.
