Latina magazine is celebrating its 15th anniversary by revealing its list of the 15 Latinas We Love, highlighting 15 of the most influential Latina celebrities from throughout the magazine’s 15-year history on its extraordinary October 2011 cover.
From Shakira to Selena Gomez, from Gloria Estefan to Jessica Alba, the special anniversary issue took nine months of planning, seven photo shoots, more than 100 red designer dresses and upwards of $10 million in jewelry to create the triple gatefold cover, which hits newsstands on September 13.
“We were looking for women who, of course, were not only global superstars but who were really groundbreaking — who had kind of broken out of the box that they had initially been put into,” Latina magazine editorial director Galina Espinoza told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Wednesday’s Access Hollywood Live.
“Someone like Selena Gomez, she started out a teen queen. But today’s she’s a triple threat in movies and music, she’s got her own fashion line. She’s growing up before our eyes,” Galina continued. “You’ve got someone like Salma Hayek, who started out… she was a telenovela star. She is Oscar nominated, but now she’s a really important producer in Hollywood, and she just launched her own beauty line.”
To celebrate the new issue, Access Hollywood has teamed up with Latina for an hour-long special, “Access Hollywood & Latina Magazine present 15 Latinas We Love,” which will bring the groundbreaking cover to life.
Natalie Morales, news anchor & co-host of NBC’s “Today” show and Latina’s parenting columnist, will host the syndicated weekend edition of Access Hollywood, “15 Latinas We Love,” airing September 17 & 18 (check local listings for times).
“These are women who are redefining what it means to be a modern-day Latina and they’re really inspiring,” Galina added.
In conjunction, Latina.com and AccessHollywood.com will feature extended video interviews with the amazing women who made the list.
