Christina Milian Talks Facing Adversity In Hollywood & Her New Gig On ‘The Voice’

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Christina Milian has a new gig after the Super Bowl this Sunday, when she makes her debut as the new social media correspondent for “The Voice,” but it hasn’t been an easy road in Hollywood for the Latina singer and actress.

“What roles have you been up for that you didn’t get?” Access Hollywood Live’s Kit Hoover asked Christina on Thursday’s show.

“There have been a lot… Especially endorsements. There are certain things like, a hair product, or something like that, they’re like, ‘Oh, we want a Latina, we want a Latina,’ you go in you’re like, ‘I’m Latina!’ You go speak Spanish, you go do the whole deal, they’re like, ‘Oh, well, you know…’” Christina recounted. “They go for a more fair skin Latina because that’s typically what you see, but we’re trying to break that mold.

“Hey, we’re talking about it. There’s a documentary that I did with mun2 where we’re talking about being black Latinos in the industry or just in the world and just kind of making it more accepted,” she added, referring to the recent special, “Black and Latino,” on mun2.tv.

On Sunday, when “The Voice” premieres after the big game, fans will get to see Christina taking care of the show’s social media department, providing a connection between the fans, the contestants and the judges.

“There’s kind of nothing off limits,” Christina said. “I talk to Christina Aguilera, Blake [Shelton], Adam Levine, Cee Lo [Green]… It’s a really candid set. It’s a really cool group of musicians… Anyone will talk about anything they want to.”

Christina praised “The Voice” judges, who are featured on the cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone.

“Besides the fun, they’re really into their job and they’re really into helping these artists become the best artist they can possibly be on this show,” she said.

As for her gig with “The Voice,” being in touch with the fans so closely online has certainly sent a fair number of unlikely suitors Christina’s way, but the single mom isn’t ready to jump into the dating pool.

“There are a lot of really good, nice guys out there, but I’ve kind of kept the door shut on the dating rounds because I actually really enjoy being single,” she said. “I’ve always been one relationship into the next, into the next, and then I always have to kind of question people’s motives.

“Now that I’m even doing ‘The Voice’ — it’s funny, whenever I have something that’s really going on and you see me on TV [and] guys pop out of the woodwork, you always have to question their motives. I’m enjoying being single, staying focused and motivated and being a mom.”

But when Access Hollywood Live’s Billy Bush suggested her co-star, judge Cee Lo, is a lady magnet, Christina laughed.

“Cee Lo loves the ladies! He might be my next boyfriend,” she laughed.

“The Voice” premieres after the Super Bowl on Sunday on NBC.
