LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

The news of Lauren Conrad’s ex’s (Doug Reinhardt’s) split with Paris Hilton came as a surprise to the reality star on Wednesday, as Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush was the one to clue her in – the second time on Wednesday he’d broken news to a celeb (having alerted Carrie Prejean to her Miss California firing earlier that morning).

“I didn’t know that!” the former “Hills” star said of the split. “I thought they were a good match.”

And Lauren, who was celebrating the launch of her first novel, “L.A. Candy,” had some strong words for the celebutante.

“First she was going to marry Stavros Niarchos,” Billy said.

“She was going to marry a lot of people,” Lauren said, adding that she didn’t think Doug was in charge of the relationship.

“But he had fun,” she said of the formerly inseparable pair. “That’s all that matters.”

Lauren also told Billy that even though she hadn’t done much dating on “The Hills,” she had good memories of her time with Doug.

“Doug’s pretty awesome,” she said. “[We] dated my senior year of high school – he moved back and then it was like, ‘Oh, we’ll pick up where we left off’… for a couple of weeks.”
