LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- LeAnn Rimes and “The X Factor’s” Carly Rose Sonenclar weren’t quite in sync when they performed “How Do I Live Without You” on Wednesday night’s show and it immediately sparked some controversy. But on Thursday, the country singer tried to quash the rumors by Tweeting out a statement.
“In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage,” LeAnn wrote. “It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl.
“And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is ‘It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight,” she added.
The performance from LeAnn, 28, and Carly, 13, prompted headlines like, “LeAnn Rimes: Drunk on The X Factor?!” from The Hollywood Gossip, while SheKnows Entertainment’s headline was, “Weird, Lurching Over-The-Top Duet.”
Simon Cowell defended the guest performer in a video posted on TMZ. When asked if he thought she was “on something,” by a cameraman, the Brit replied, “No, I think she was just happy.”
After the performance, Carly – who ultimately finished as the runner-up to Tate Stevens on Thursday’s finale — complimented her fellow performer.
“That was one of the most fun moments I had on the stage. It was just amazing. I had a blast,” Carly told co-host Mario Lopez on Wednesday night. “I was really comfortable. You made me really comfortable.”
Asked what she thought about the performance during the show’s broadcast, judge Britney Spears said she was impressed too.
“I think they were shockingly amazing. So good. So good,” she said.
