LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Liam Neeson has finally spoken about his much-talked about cameo in the upcoming “Hangover 2” film – a role that was originally supposed to be filled by Mel Gibson.
“Apparently, yes [the part was Mel’s] — I didn’t realize it at the time,” Liam told Access on Tuesday at the premiere for his new film, “The Next Three Days.”
“I spoke to Mel. Mel’s cool about it. We’re all cool,” he continued.
The “Taken” star said he has a good rapport with the headline-making actor (the two worked together in 1984 on “The Bounty”), and described their conversation regarding the “Hangover 2” replacement as “very pleasant.”
“Mel and I did a movie together about 20 or 25 years ago,” Liam told Access. “It was a long time ago. So, we know each other.”
As for the original “Hangover” film, Liam says that he’s definitely a fan – though he didn’t see the hilarious film during its original run in theaters.
“I saw [‘Hangover’] in Berlin,” Liam smiled. “It was one of those nights flicking through channels and it came on and I don’t think I’ve laughed harder in my life.”
Liam also denied recent rumors that his character in the comedy’s sequel is a tattoo artist, and dispelled whispers of shooting the raucous ‘guys night out’ flick on location in Thailand.
“No,” Liam laughed. “It was (at the) Warner Brothers studio. I wish [it was Thailand]!”
You’ll be able to catch Liam, along with Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha, when “Hangover 2” hits theaters on May 26, 2011.
