Lil Wayne Checks In With Arizona Probation Officer

Yuma County chief probation officer Steve Hardy says the 28-year-old rapper’s case is being transferred to his home state of Florida. For the next three years, he must avoid drugs and alcohol and not commit any new crimes, among other conditions.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter Jr., was released from a New York jail Thursday after serving eight months in a gun case.

He pleaded guilty in Yuma County in June to a single felony drug possession charge stemming from a Jan. 22, 2008, incident in which his tour bus was stopped at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint east of Yuma.

Authorities say they found cocaine, Ecstasy and a handgun.
