LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Living life in the public eye has been an everyday occurrence for Lindsay Lohan since she was a child, but one thing she still hasn’t gotten used to is hearing her father talk about her in the press.

Lindsay opened up about her struggles with her father’s public statements, her upcoming role in “Manson Girls” and her third album, in a revealing new interview on “The Billy Bush Show,” Billy’s new radio show, which broadcasts from within the Access Hollywood offices.

“You know what I have to say about my father is that I just wish that he wouldn’t go and talk to the media as a parent,” she told Billy during a phone interview, while being driven around Los Angeles, chased by over a dozen paparazzi. “It is not attractive to me. It really upsets me, and I wish he would stop.”

Recently, Michael attacked his ex-wife, Dina, in the press, claiming he is going to re-open their divorce case, further claiming she does not make it easy for him to see their three children together. He also said his children have not seen their grandfather, his father, who is dying.

Although she didn’t single out any specific comments, Lindsay told Billy she would prefer it if her dad kept family matters private altogether.

“There is no reason that anybody should be talking about any personal things that go on in their lives,” she said. “I think people make things up enough and to bring attention to something that is not really going on is unnecessary.”

After years of hearing her family quoted in the press, Lindsay said she isn’t as hurt by her father’s comments as she could have been.

“It disappoints me, but I have learned to kind of let things roll off my back,” she said. “I have learned, you know, put a shield up and protect myself as many ways as I can because things get said everyday.”

However, one thing the actress is interested in tackling in public is what she believes to be a misconception of her upcoming role in “Manson Girls,” a film expected to center around some of Charles Manson’s followers around the time of Sharon Tate’s murder.

“It is very interesting,” Lindsay said of the film project. “My only concern is that it is a little bit dark. I want to make sure that it is not portrayed as the wrong type of film because that is not what it is. It is about a girl who is telling a story of what she [has] seen.”

During the interview, Lindsay also opened up about her new album, which she has spent the last several months working hard on in both New York and Los Angeles.

“I am waiting on some people,” Lindsay told Billy. “I am hoping to get some great producers on it as well as the ones that I have, but I really want Timbaland and Akon.”

While her albums have often explored the troubles she has been through, Lindsay said the new record should take a more upbeat edge.

“I have gone through so much and I think publicly people have seen that and I don’t find that fascinating any more,” Lindsay added. “I think it is kind of over with because that is not where I am in my life. I want it to be a fun record, I want it to be free spirited and, you know, I want it to represent me in my life now, which is happy.”
