LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Over the weekend, Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos sat down with Lindsay Lohan for her first extensive TV interview since leaving rehab. And the young woman Maria found was different than Maria encountered in past interviews – more relaxed, more at ease with who she is and, more importantly, with where she is going.
“How has everything been for you since you left rehab?” Maria asked. “Are you feeling good?”
“Yeah,” Lindsay answered. “It’s been over a year, so a long time… I’m great. I’m really happy.”
And Lindsay was beaming, having gotten her life back on track and on a roll just 14 months after she entered rehab three separate times in one year for substance abuse.
“People go through ups and downs in life,” Lindsay said. “I’m glad I went through it at a younger age. Kids go through [stuff] in college and they have that time to just be in college and no one knows about it. I lived my life in front of the public eye, so everything seemed to be a bigger deal which put a lot more pressure on me.”
Now, Lindsay is handling that pressure by leaning on girlfriend Samantha Ronson, who she admits she loves very much.
“I learned to take the time for me and you know, you learn to put yourself first ‘cause at the end of the day, you have to go home and look in the mirror,” Lindsay added.
Lindsay is also happy in part due to President elect Barack Obama’s big win on Election Day, a candidate she publicly stumped for on her blog.
When the Obamas take up residency in the White House, it will mean an intense spotlight on the two children – Malia and Sasha — and Maria asked Lindsay, as a former child star, if she had any advice for the girls.
“I feel like it’s very different though. I feel like their spotlight is much more controlled,” she said. “And they’re so young still.”
